Navigator Ruth Leilani Caplin
Daughter of a Naval Engineer/Mechanical Engineer Consultant, I was born on the big Island of Hawaii. My family and I then lived overseas in various countries such as Ecuador, Brazil, and Kenya until I was 19 years old. At that time we moved to Los Angeles, CA to establish "roots" (and so that I wouldn't forget my English!). My roots never grew long there, because once I received my AA degree in Liberal Arts from Valley College, I felt the yearning to travel again and explore various cities in the U.S. I wanted to meet the challenge of moving to those cities and starting my life from scratch in each place. Just to see if I could take my career and life to the next level in each new location, using all that I had learned up to that point.
I got my PMP (Project Management Professional) certification, along with a BS (lots of it!) in Computer Science, and I worked as an independent computer consultant for about two decades. I was a senior project manager for top financial firms in New York City for about a decade, and prior to that was a software developer working for such companies as Apple Computer, IBM Professional Services, William M Mercer, and Chase Access Services in various cities across the U.S.
I am currently cruising happy and free on the ocean on Lakshmi, reveling in the beauty of the exquisite islands of the Bahamas and Caribbean. I grew up with the pictures of these islands on my walls -- now I'm visiting them!
I enjoy mingling with sea creatures underwater while diving, and spending quality time with my Scottish Terriers. In my spare time I enjoy creative pursuits such as 3D computer animation, creating computer digital art, photography, and designing web sites.
I am Navigator and Gourmet Chef aboard Lakshmi.
